Mr. Gurmit Singh is an environmentalist, social activist and engineer. He is the Chairman of CETDEM. Prior to becoming Chairman, he was the Centre’s founder Executive Director from June 1985 to December 2006. He was appointed as Director of CETDEM’s think tank SUDI in Aug. 2011. He is also an Adviser of the Environmental Protection Society, Malaysia, [after having served as founder President from 1974 to 1994] and till 15 Sept. 2012 was Regional Coordinator of Climate Action Network, Southeast Asia (CANSEA) for 3 terms.

For his dedicated work, the Malaysian Government awarded Gurmit the distinguished Langkawi Award in 1993 and the Sustainable Consumer Award in 2008. UN Malaysia gave him its Environmental Sustainability Award in 2013 while MBPJ presented him its Green Leadership award towards the end of the year. In 2015 the Malaysian Green Technology Corporation gave him the Green Catalyst Award. He also garnered an Honorary M.Sc. from Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2000. Gurmit holds an Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Malaya [1970]. He has been a corporate member of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia since 1974. He is also a recipient of the Merdeka Award in 2018.

Charles Tan is currently the Chief Information Officer, AmBank Group. He has worked primarily with Banks & Financial Institutions and this includes 17 years as a Management Consultant with Accenture. He has some technology related experience as well as operations management. His fields of interest are Climate Change, Energy and Organic Farming. He has been a member of CETDEM’s Board of Directors since 1993, and is the immediate past Chairman (2000 – Dec 2006).

Noor Mohamed graduated from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) with Bac. Sc. (Hons) (Chemistry). He was initially attached to Center for Environmental Technologies and Natural Resources Management (CETNaRM). He has been involved in research and consultancy works especially in the field of waste management and energy i.e. Climate Change and Clean Development Mechanism. He served many ministries and other leading organizations namely EPU, DANIDA, Ministry of Housing and Local Government (MHLG), UNDP and many more.

He wrote and presented (locally and internationally) about 30 papers and received training in solid waste management, pollution control management, energy management and environmental management system. He is also a member to Charted Institution of Waste Management (CIWM), United Kingdom.

Jun-E holds a Bachelor in Information Systems Engineering (UTAR), a Master in Public Policy (University of Malaya), and a PhD in Communication from Nanyang Technological University (Singapore). Dr. Tan is an independent policy researcher with interests anchored on social and environmental sustainability within the context of sustainable development. She worked as a senior analyst in the ISIS Malaysia, during which she focused on topics including Social and Solidarity Economy, Climate Change, and Green Technology.

Her recent work include a study on Social Security and the Informal Economy in Malaysia, drafting of an ASEAN Charter for the Social and Solidarity Economy, and a partnership with Human Resources Without Borders. She also runs a number of non-profit projects such as the Environmental platform; and Jun-E is also the main author of “Blogging and Democratization in Malaysia – A New Civil Society in the Making”, published in 2008.
